house....dun dun duuuun!

My hubbo and I have put in an application for a house we would like to rent. The deposit was 675 and the admin fees were 175 or somethin like that, no problemo, i just paid that yesterday to hold the house for us. Anywho, now the letting agent bloke drops a bomb on us, stating that he is gonna have to run a credit check on us. Now hubbys credit is fine. Mine sucks! I have never had credit, no loans, no credit cards NOTHIN! Which, for some random reason shows up on my credit report as '' poor credit'. i spoke to experian, and they told me it was due to me not having credit, i dont have good credit, but i dont have any, which they class as bad, which is stupid. So now i am told the house is ours subject to this check.. which i am dreading, but also if it does fail we lose the admin fee. I need a credit card, anyone suggest one?
Dayyyum!!

ps im renting at the mo, and have been since i was 18 (now 22) and i have Never had a check run on me to my knowledge when applying.

I just got a Capital One card, my limit is really low but they're good for boosting your credit rating apparently. Even if you only spend on it a few times a month, it'll help.. although if you're like me, I manage to spend more than a few times.

Hope it works out for you.

I used to work for a C.Card & Loan company. With you not having any credit history its best you go apply for a credit card with the bank that you have your current accounts with. You've a better chance of getting a card with your own bank rather than a 3rd party who know nothing about you. Use it for small things....a new bag, pair of shoes or eating out! I'd say never use it for household bills or daily living expenses!

Keep it for about 6 months to a year and then get rid of it! (Credit cards are a slippery slope!!) Also don't pay the full balance off every month as this can sometimes go against you (sounds stupid I know!) But they like to see you making payments on time etc and if you pay off the whole lot all the time they can't gage how good you are with payments!

I would defo start with your own bank first!

EDIT:

As far as the credit search goes it prob won't affect your chances of getting the house cos they prob just wanna make sure you're not in debt or living off credit! So could work out in your favor!

Good Luck

xx
