How to cook rice?

Does anyone have a fail safe way of cooking rice so that it isn't still hard, or still sloppy? I am generally a pretty good cook, but I always mess up rice xx

I ALWAYS burn or overcook rice.

So my only advice is to marry someone who's good at it or get a rice cooker. Apparently they're amazing.

I just do what it says on the packet!

1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of cold water

put in saucepan and leave to boil when its boiled stir once and simmer for however long the packet says

and I always rinse the rice after with boiling water from the kettle to get rid of all the startch x

I can't cook rice either. It always comes out sticky or sloppy. I know that's something to do with not rinsing it enough before cooking, but it is such a big faff! I don't even like rice, but if I have to cook it for some reason, I buy boil in the bag. You can get frozen rice too

My OH seems to think he has a failsafe way of doing it in the microwave, but I am worried it will end up ruined xx

I know what you mean hun, when we're being lazy we get the Uncle Ben's boil in the bag, we put it in boiling water for 10 min, drain it and hey presto... perfect rice!

When we're being not so lazy we do as Becky does, rinse it.

x

I haven't cooked rice in ages as my DH does most of the cooking but he usually burns it a bit. The key is to get the right amount of water and not take off the lid!!! I think it's something like 6fl oz of rice to about 1/2 pint of water but I might be totally wrong, can't quite remember! Rinse the rice thoroughly in water first. Then with a close fitting lid put on to boil. White rice takes 12 minutes, if it has wild rice do it for 18 and if it's brown I think it was something like 14. Turn the heat right down when you hear it start to boil so the lid is just pfffing little bits of steam while it simmers rather than spilling over on to the hob. When your timer goes off give it a blast on high for a moment then turn off the heat. Leave the lid on a little longer for best fluffy results.
