Yeah I read this and agree that caution is surely advised and there's no need to get too hysterical BUT if they're issuing hinge covers in the US they should be issuing them here.

one thing i find weird though if they are Selling more of these pushchairs in the UK but the USA have problems with childrens fingers in it

No offence to anyone but surely you keep your childs fingers away when closing it or if you cannot stop the child being near it then close it slowly making sure to keep an eye on what the child is doing IDK Since lots of things can hurt a child and lead to bad things but you keep an eye on them, like putting bouncers on tables when theres a warning not to

It says it is because they children are being put in them when it is not properly opened. Why would you not open it properly and tehn put your child in it??

Well maybe because it seems convenient at the time and although you may be aware that it might be slightly dangerous and the child MIGHT get hurt you probably wouldn't have a clue or be paranoid enough to think the child might get a digit amputated!!!!

I realise that we are surrounded by dangerous things all day every day and we can't ban them or get hysterical but I think its REALLY out of order for a company to go out of it's way to recall a product in the USA when the EXACT same product is available here and all they have to do is offer parents the hinge covers to prevent any accidents from happening.

I used to be judgemental about parents not being careful but since having nephews and nieces I realise how quickly accidents can happen and do with parents who on the whole are very good parents.

Oh, and here's a list of the affected buggies plus a thing which you can fill in and request a hinge kit. i don't know if that means they'll send you one or if you have to buy one or what but thought I'd post it anyway.

http://www.mindfulmum.co.uk/2009/11/...us-but-not-uk/

I won't be requesting a kit though. I think.

I had a Maclaren Quest for Noah, it's still going strong now 4 years on with my friends 18 month old, both boys have still got their fingers because they know prams aren't toys! Surely its common sense or am I missing something? There's a video somewhere of a woman discussing this on bbc news and they basically say the same thing, unless you allow your child to mess with the pushchairs there's no way they would get harmed just by been in it! Hysteria gone crazy! Wonder how many are going to try and claim compensation

Because they meet EU standards and pose no more of a risk than any other buggy! Ellis could get his fingers caught in his Graco or Mamas and Papas Luna which has a hinge just like the Maclaren in the same place when I open or close it but I never do it near him. I don't think it's out of order at all

I really feel for those whose child has been injured but 16 out of millions sold over 10 years? Perhaps a bit of perspective is needed here. (According to my OH's quality read, Nuts, 100 people die a years from choking on Biro's!!)

Exactly. Common sense has to prevail with headlines like these.

The moral of this story is not to let your child hold or touch the buggy when you are folding it or opening it. Its not rocket science.

As parents we have to take responsibility for our children and not continually blame others for our temporary lack of judgements of which their are going to be MILLIONS of!!!!!
