I have a huge decision to make. Please help!

I feel so stoopid saying this as it wasn't long ago i was telling people how wonderful and placid my dog is but.......

China is a 9 year old staffy i have had her since she was 6 weeks old and she is acting very strangely. She has started going toilet in the house regardless of being walked and let out back but its as if she doesn't know what she is doing. She isn't doing as she is asked and she has snacked at me today and my 5 month old last week. Its totally out of character for her, she is normally lovely. She has dropped loads of weight and her hair is thinning on her sides, her eyes are dull and her breath stinks.

If there is a long term problem i can't afford to treat her but not only that i can't have her dirtying all over my home where my kids are. I mean Jake rolls all over the floor so its just not on. And to top it off i can't have her snacking and bighting at us. I have another baby on the way to consider also. China is my 1st baby and i love her like crazy, like a person shouldn't love a dog, she is litterally like one of my children but i have to put my real babies ahead of my fur baby.

Do i have her put to sleep? I couldn't rehome her, we have never spent a day apart except for when i've had my kids and usually she is attached to my side permenantly, i think she would die of a broken heart if i let her go. Oh i dunno, my head is in bits, any advice would be appreciated, i really need some help xx

I think you need to take her to a vet. She sounds unwell. You can pay for a consultation (about £20 depending where you do) and then see what they say. They might be able to diagnose or might suggest further tests and then you can decide how much you can afford or are prepared to do for her.

My dog did that. We were told to keep him outside for the rest of his life. But with our other dog, when he did that, the vet said he just had an infection. They fixed him and he was fine.

I don't know if this is relevant but all her strange behavior started after i found a tick on her. I had it removed by the vet nurse and she checked the head was out and all was good. Could this be a factor? xx

This is an article about symptoms for Lyme Disease which is transmitted through ticks and mentions eye problems as a symptom that has not tended to be recorded so isn't often noted as a symotom.

This mentions weight loss, bad eyes etc

I'm not trying to scare you but ticks do carry things often so it's not an impossibility. Make sure you remind your vet of the tick.

Really hoping it will be something treatable like an infection. I have a fur baby too and know how heart breaking it is when something is wrong with them. Let us know what your vet says and give her a hug from me.
