Pension

Hi all,

I got a letter telling me that I owe approx £140 because I have a shortfall n my national insurance contributions..

I am not sure whether to pay or not (it's voluntary) as i've had mixed reactions, some people are telling me that the pension will be phased out and it's not worth it, other people have told me that if I am getting a job soon (which I am thinking about at the min) then I should pay it.

Anyone help??

Thanks

I had one of these and I didnt pay it... I'm tight. Haha! I had better things to spend my money on.

I then received another letter 7 months down the line telling me they had made a mistake andI had paid enough National Insurance.

Good job I didn't pay it in my eyes, I bet they wouldnt have written to tell me they had made a mistake and they would refund the money.

I dont really think it will affect you in any way if you dont pay it.

Personally I just wouldnt bother

Rob had a letter with something like that, he decided not to pay it as he's paying into a pension with work so it wouldnt make any difference.

I wouldn't pay it either. They recently changed how many years you had to pay it for to get your state pension to 30 years. I think if you were in receipt of child benefit for the bit they say you were short for then you're ok as your covered anyway
