Blimey!

I though most disabled toilets now accomadated for mother & baby also! I can see peoples points on this issue but I think it was obvious why you were using them & no need of her to ask.

I can see both sides to the argument - alot of places do have 'mother and baby' toilets or combine them with the disabled ones.

From a disabled persons point of view, it damn frustrating when someone who isn't disabled uses a disabled toilet, especially if they have continence issues. Personally I don't have a problem when it's like a mother and baby issue, but when it's just 'oh this one is bigger' it's annoying.

I was once in the cubicle when a group of children and their mother was outside, one of the children asked 'can we go into the disabled toilet' and the mother replied 'there's someone in it, come on, use the proper toilets' - or that was the just of it. ok so I don't know if the child was disabled though I do know that they didn't have an obvious physical disability cause we saw and heard them when I came out.

I don't think that she should've reacted like that if there was no mother and baby cubicle, but that's why she probably did.

I think you did the right thing! I would do the same as well! Pff, I use the handicap toilet anyways.. Its the only one I used when I was working. I just like that its more spacious and doesn't make me feel like I cannot pull my pants up because my elbows are going to hit the sides. Maybe I'm just weird though..

but how would you feel if you had no choice but to use one of those toilets and had a continence problem for example? You've struggled getting there, know that you've got to struggle when you get in, dying for the toilet or possibly sat on a dirty incontinence pad, or cholostomy (or other) bag is full or is leaking, frustrated, flustered and hurting cause of the whole fiasco when you find someone else is in the ONLY toilet that you can use.....you wait ten minutes to find someone who is ablebodied and has no disabilities (not all of them are obvious, which is why people will ask if the said person has a disability, before having a go) come out of the toilet when they had a choice of several toilets to use and chose the only one that a disabled person could use? The same goes for a disabled/parent and baby toilet - how would you feel if you had a screaming baby, you need the toilet, the baby's nappy needs changing, you're flustered trying to get there etc, you wait 10 minutes and out comes someone who chose to use that toilet, the only place you can get into, when they had the choice of several.

I think it's kinda rude.

I'm so glad that I can leave the pram anywhere without worrying. There has never been a child kidnapped, ever. (I mean, where would you go? hehe). Of course I kept them close to me if I could, but if I needed to go inside a store and buy milk or something and they were sleeping in the pram i just parked it outside.

You should have told her to complain to the store about not having parent and baby facilities. You didn't do anything wrong. Can understand if she's been waiting for loo and everyone and anyone using diabled loo's but its the stores fault they should accomodate mother and baby too.
