What to buy to start off?

Hi all,

Suz's thread has made me want to make cards and stuff. I looked in a craft shop earlier, but it was quite expensive so I just got a few cheaper bits. Plus there are so many different things you can buy, it can get confusing.

Going to look on ebay for a few bits as im making Bethanie a picture to start with (want her name, flowers, hearts and photos of her hopefully). Here is what I bought:

I need a list of things to start out with to make decent cards if anyone can help! ty.

you need a guilatine - check out the pound shop! Pens, inks, different papers, peel off stickers, gluey stuff (glue dots are good and the foam squares) scissors (2 pairs one for paper and one for sticky stuff) it really depends what you want to do - have a look on QVC when they have a crafting hour - then check out the pound shop and your local craft shop

First off...AVOID EBAY!

A) I bought 300 Foam Sickers at a Dollar store for $1.00 and Someone just sold 2 packs of them for 10 bucks pluss 5 for shipping...SO its a Rip Off...

B) I bought something at a craft store for a 1.50 and on ebay someone is trying to sell it for 3 pluss shipping.....

So, Hit up the bargen stores first and TBH, I am using all my Color Paper before any of the embelishments... Invest in some fun sisors that cut great shapes

Here is a page I did that had minimum "Bling" and is all paper and fun shape sisores (sp)

I bought the ribbon half off at a craft store. Dont forget, if it says it for Scrapbooking its a fortune...if its just craft....its a bargen

good luck There are alot of girls on here that are scrapbookers and if you find something on Ebay that you want, dont hesitate to ask if its a deal I dont mind buying from ebay if its rare

Good luck !!! It so much fun

Hey all. My mum has a whole room dedicated to making cards and hers are out of this world. She specialises in acetate cards but thats way over my head.
She is on a tight budget and she swears by :

basic card to make the cards not the ones prefolded etc.

Get ribbons cheap from a material/haberdashery shop. Or even you know sometimes on clothes you get the ribbon to hang them up but you dont use it.......she is very thrifty!!

Also make use of paper bags shops give you to put things in as sometimes these are decorative.

Also gift wrapping paper instead of the old scrapbooking paper etc.

She also makes stamps out of sponge and spuds lol.

The main good investments as mentioned before is a gullotine,a cutting mat and some tweezers etc oh and forget liquid glue and glue dots........try the glue you get on a roll........like in the shape of a typpex mouse but glue. Dont buy the dear ones though as cleap ones do or even basic double sided sticky tape as this holds things better than liquid glue.

She also swears by "the range" shop if there is one in your area? if not they have a very small site online.
Ill try and think of some more stuff.
