This is the moment a desperate father was forced to throw his baby from a four-storey apartment block as ferocious flames engulfed his home.
The baby was caught by firefighters below, but nine people, including five children and a pregnant woman, were killed by the blaze which ripped through the building in southwest Germany.
It is not known whether the baby's parents were among the survivors.
Ludwigshafen police spokesperson Wolfgang Froemel said terror quickly swept through the building.
He said: "Families with children were standing on the balconies, and the whole building was on fire in very short time, so there was no means of escape through the stairwell for the affected people."
Mr Froemel has refused to rule out more casualties. Around 52 people are registered as living at the building, but a party in one of the apartments means many more were in the apartment block at the time.
