We have been on the list for about a year and a half (July 06) and the average waiting time is 1 1/2-3 years depending on the area.. with the areas we want being more 2-3.

Problem is, I know we REALLY want to move out but we've been waiting too long to just get any old shoddy place in an area we don't want (I want to be short bus ride distance to Guildford town centre, to be nearer to my mum who lives in Croydon). Also, we want a house with a garden for Bethanie.

Anyone who has experience/worked with the council (I know there was one girl but have forgotten her name, Vicki maybe?):
*Should this appointment push us up the list a bit? (we have bands though, not points system.. we're mid of the road - band C)
*If offered a place, will we be penalised for turning it down?
Any other tips of advice please!! I really don't want to live here anymore, genuine reasons.

think thats me tilly,
its true while you are pregnant you are top of the list as the view had was that the stress of having no abode can cause a mother to be to lose her child and no lha wants that on the national news.
just go and make a nuisance of yourself demanding to be housed ring everyday... if they offer you dodgy areas (which they will to survey how much you really need to move out) just hit back with... would you bring up a child in that environment and stand your ground ask to see any available houses. where i worked they put the houses that are ready on a bidding system and ppl voted dont know how it works your neck of the woods anyway the point im making is ask which properties are vacant and are still awaiting to be stripped which means you'll be the 1st to show intrest and get that property.
dont go in screamin an f'in an jeffin cos theyll go out their way to house you in a cess pit. be polite but constant.

Thanks vicki, just to let you know.. im not pregnant, my point to the council was that a member of the house is, so that would make the overcrowded living environment worse. We have all been asked by my boyfriends parents to move out as soon as possible (they're not being difficult, but want to get on with some property stuff). Also, if I make a fuss and we're shown a property in an area we don't want to be in, will they think it's dodgy that im saying no even though I desperately want my own place. I do really want to move, but im not waiting almost 2 years to be in a shit hole, do you know what I mean?
~Yes we have a bidding system, every Thursday. We have a band system here (A-D), we are in band C which is recognised housing need, overcrowding etc...but what is going to make me seem any different from the many many people wanting a house. I suppose i'll just have to wait and see what they say...

Here you have to have a letter off the person your living with 28 days before they are going to kick you out. Take that to the council and then they have to get back to you and say if they think you are in need of a property. Then if there is no where avalible they put you in a hostel/mother and baby unit for about 3 weeks and then have to find you somewhere. xx
