support me get my drivers

hey everyone,

we have a car but only DH drives. my mom doesnt drive and i think i may secretly be scared that i will never learn. i am so nervous, people drive terribly where i live and ive been putting off learning. but i want to drive and be able to drive on my own by the time the baby comes. i dont want to be a mommy who cant get my kid anywhere, and its not fair on DH to be chauffeur all the time.

it will take me 28 lessons to get my license ( ive already had three a couple of months ago) and i need to take a written test. all the lessons are very very expensive and people dont usually pass first time.

here are some of my fears:
other people on the road
merging
driving down a hill ( i have the same fear riding a bike down a hill)
judging distance

so i need support! in order to make this happen i have to do it quickly.
because i need to take two months of lessons probably, and i have to drive for 3 months with someone with a license before i can drive on my won. maybe its not exactly realistic but i want to try aim for before the baby is born. so.. i am gonna do this theory test next week! and by the next week i will have scheduled a driving lesson.

who's gonna check up on me!! help me do this!! and answer some of my fears..

I really want to start lessons in the next couple of weeks, but keep putting off booking them so you're already ahead of me!

Good luck with all your lessons and tests! x

Awww, You can do it!!! It took me 4 years to pick up the courage to finally sit my test. I kept blaming the instructors for me being scared & giving up all the time! Once you get in to it I'm sure you'll do great!

Just remember that everyone has to learn & go through your going through!

Stick at it no matter what!!!

You'll be so glad you did!!!

GOOD LUCK XX

I started learning as soon as I was 17, I passed last may 3 weeks before my 22nd birthday!!

I was always afraid of taking the theory test...which I ended up passing 1st time! I had 3 different instructors who all told me that I would pass my practical 1st time....it took me 3 attempts!!

I dont know how my my BH & I would cope without me driving... he is 26 & still cant drive! I keep telling him that he needs to learn because when we get preggers & I'm in labour I wont be able to drive myself to the hospital!!

You should defienetly do it, you will regret it if not!

Sorry for the long post!! lol

xxx

p.s Good Luck!!

Awww dont worry poppet you'll be fine.

Just take it steady and you'll soon grow in confidence and be on the road in no time.

Id advise you not to go with AA or RAC/BSM though, they tend to keep you hanging on for as long as possible to get money out of you. I started my lessons at the same time as 2 friends. I took 9, one took 22 and the other 31 ..... and we were all pretty much of equal ability.

If you need and help or advice ping me a pm

I felt exactly the same when I first thought about learning to drive
I was terrified of other people on the road and how I would ever start the car up a hill!! lol
It took me 6 months to get the courage to take my written test, which like PinkPiglet I ended up passing first time!! lol
In my first lesson I was shaking I was so scared but my instructor was really really great, he was so patient and talked me through everything and now I've had about 30 lessons and I'm taking my test on the 4th Febuary
All I can really say is yeh it is scary but the scaryness DOES go away when you get into it and the most important thing for me was finding the right instructor, don't be afraid to try a few out until you find the right one.
Also, as someone else said I would say don't go with AA or RAC because I've heard they go really slow so you'll have more lessons.
You could always have a few lessons and then if you're still not feeling any better then just leave it?
Although honestly, if I can do it then you can hun!!
Good luck

xx

You can do it! It comes sort of naturally after a while. I would do it sooner rather than later though.

i passed second time and had 24 lessons i think, passed theory test first time. i love driving wouldnt give it up for ne1 lol well worth it, i think everybody is scared of the road at first and scared of other drivers.

i was really scared about pulling out of roads and junctions etc and the best tip i ever got was when my driving instructor said to me "could you have walked across that road then before the car got to us" and i said yes and he said "well if u could have walked across it you can certainley drive across it" lol and its true, i failed first time for doing something silly and also for too much hesitation. xxx

It sounds silly but I found talking to myself while I was driving rly helped. Like if my instructor tld me to turn left, I'd say something like 'Mirrors, signal, slow down, stop (if I had to), Nothing coming' Sounds crazy but it rly helped, I even done it on my test!

One thing I would say is as soon as you've passed go out on ur own and if your feeling brave enough I'd go straight on to a motorway! Its best to do it on ur own first as I think other people make you nervous & are also a little nervous of you! I went out everyday for about a week on my own just so I could build my own confidence before I had any passengers! Its the worst when you've just passed and ur driving with ur OH and their telling you how to drive, you need to get out and do things on ur own in ur own time rather than being told 'Do this, do that!'

You should keep us updated with ur progress every lesson

xx
