If I wanted my own shop

I got an idea to open my own shop earlier, well i've been wanting to do it for ages. Me and my mum were thinking of having a beauty salon (shes been doing it for 30 odd years, so lots of experience) but I don't think it's really what I want to do. This is more of an idea for a few years time though, just thinking ahead really!

I thought of having a really pretty, girly shop selling womens products - imagine la senza or victoria's secret - (smellies, pretty lingerie, make up), but on a much much smaller scale.

I feel silly asking lol, but id want to stock 1 main brand in my shop.. could I get a big brand name in my tiny shop? would I have to approach companies? any way I can find out who does this kind of thing? I don't know where to start.

Ty.

I think alot of times the lables seek out the stores. but that is probably more in the major stores. Does the label you want have a website....? I still would call them and ask what the Buy it is or how much annually you have to sell in order to be a dealer.

I'v never ran a shop but I did work in a book&toy shop for a while that was little and ran by a family so sounds kind of similar to what you want to do (which btw sounds like a lovely idea!).
From what I understand there's no reason why you can't stock a main brand. You probably need to approach them and explain what you want to do and they might want to see a buisness plan etc but I'm sure as long as you're organised and have everything convered it'll be fine.
I would start by researching it, making contacts etc and then you'll know where you are with everything and where you stand with it.
Good luck! It sounds great

I dont know about over there but..

In aus i used to work for the qld government in the dep of small business and we had a system and program that you could come to us with your business ideas and we would do the shopping around for you and set up your stock and financial problems etc.. this includes contacting the bigger corp. about stock control and suppliers for different things...

Do you guys have anything like this?
