hi,

i have chickens... you need good layers like warrens or black rocks. approx 200-250 eggs per year.

ex battery hens can stop laying relatively quickly. bear in mind that chickens only have limited eggs in them and stop laying after approx 18 months. then you choose whether to kill them for eating or just keep them.

ex battery hens can also be quite hard to find ironically!

pm me if you need any advice....

don't forget grit to harden the shells!! x

I had one chicken, lol. Her name was Rainbow and she was a bantam chicken. She was a layer of double yolks, I don't even know it was possible! Anyway, she did stop laying but she was a pet and I loved her so much. She lived in the garden, in a rabbit hutch linked to a chicken run my dad made, so she could come and go into her bed as she pleased, and I would go down and open the door on her run so she could peck around the garden.
I gave her this chicken feed I got from the local corn stores animal feed shop, and fine grit too, of which she liked to sit in a bucket of and peck at lol. She ate slugs and snails around the garden, and loved dry mud baths, she would go to the flower borders, pull flowers out and roll her feathers in the dusty mud. She did get fleas once, but I had her de flea'd fairly easily.
All in all, a fantastic pet who I loved dearly. I was devistated when I lost her.

*thumbs up*

Hi hun, I've got 3 chickens. They are very easy to look after and fresh free range eggs taste gorgeous. And they eat all the snails in the garden too! I got loads of info on the internet before I got mine and a couple of books from the library. We've got rhode island red hybrids and they are brill layers!
