Adult Sleep Disorders

Does anyone else have one?

I'm been ok managing mine for awhile, but it's been getting frankly embarrassing now as I'm going through a weird stage.

I have a real problem with sleeping. I had loads of blood tests done and they all came back clear. They refused to test hormones, I thought it maybe my melatonin but they refused to do the test so I bought some melatonin capsules on-line and still take them. They worked a treat, after years of struggling to nod off and stay asleep each night I finally found something that worked. It was my OH that came across them on a TV programme, a woman had issues with sleeping since she had a child and breastfed, breastfeeding can alter your melatonin especially if you breastfeed on demand, your body loses the natural sleep patterns and you end up with sleep disorders, I assumed this is what happened to me and so far I think I am right.

What problems did you have if you don't mind me asking?

I had problems well before I got PG. It's been going on for about 7 years now since I was 18. I never noticed it becoming more frequent with BFing either, but I did stop last month fully and it's in the last month it's got stupid.

I suffer from hypnagogic hallucinations (like nightmares only you are not fully asleep, just on the borderline). Often they are very scary ones, and it left me with insomnia from the age of 7. Pregnancy can make it worse. Dont know if thats the sort of thing you meant

Yes but mine is a bit different than the norm, well the cause is anyway, just good old fashioned insomnia for me

Most nights I wake up.....but I don't 'wake up' if that makes sense. It's hard to explain. I can see, but I am not rational at all and I can't distinguish reality from dream. I often 'sleep walk' but I'm not fully asleep or awake.

In the past I hallucinated things in my room. People, animals (usually spiders or snakes) that were there to get me. I used to have a man who would sit on top of my chest when I was 'asleep' every night and try to strangle me.

I'm going through a stage now though where I don't recognise OH Yes, I'm serious.

Last night I threw him out of the bed and told him I was ringing the police.

It's been happening for about a month now. I wake up, and have no idea who OH is. Earlier this week I actually realised I only had knickers on when in bed, and got up and got fully dressed before I would get back into bed with him. I woke up in the morning, fully dressed (even a coat on) and had no recollection.

I've started doing this most nights. Getting up and getting changed. I've even found stashes of clothes in bed with me.

Most times I have panic attack when I 'wake up', as I see him and think there is a stranger in my room, and in my bed.

He's taking this REALLY personally too. I don't want to have to ask him to sleep in the spare room as I think this will make him really upset

I sometimes don't recognise OH and I also see things. Doctor told me it was down to PTSD.

hun.

I don't have anything that would cause PTSD in my life. It's been going on for so long now, I think this is just another 'stage' of it.
