The idea of sleep paralysis really terrifies me! Must be awul for you I think I'd much rather have my one!

How often do you have an episode?

I'm doing an experiment tonight. Ive been really methodical about putting my PJs on, and have left my bathroom light on (so there is light in the room and can see OH properly). Will see if it makes a difference! God, that makes me sound a nutter!

I really only have it a couple times a year, at most 4 or 5 times, but it really is scary. Yours sounds so freaky too! Sleep is such a weird thing!

aww i feel for you rafwife, it can be so frightening. I began having them when i was 7 years old, my parents were so used to me screaming at night, most of the time they didnt bother coming in to see me, as they knew i would be half asleep. As i got older i was more aware that i was awake but often unable to move. They say there are two medical reasons they can happen, narcolepsy and mental illness, of which I have neither. If you dont have either, it puts you in the 'normal' bracket thats just unlucky.

In pregnancy dreams always become more vivid, so its no suprise the hypnagogic hallucinations do too. The best thing you could do it try to destress before bed time and make sure youd ont let yourself get overtired, it can make it worse.

Its a shame for the partners too, my poor dh would be in a deepsleep, when suddenly i would bolt upright and scream the house down. He is quite used to it now, after 5 years with me, but i still feel very sorry for him.

I have severe nightmares and night terrors and I cry out, shake, talk etc

My husband has sexsomnia, where he initiates sex whilst asleep

My night terrors are related to sexual abuse

We dont get much sleep!

For me it's just that I can't 'nod' off. I can lie there all night without dropping off. The melatonin capsules have changed my life, I have suffered for years and years, before having kids, breastfeeding can also cause problems as it interferes with your body's natural rhythm and interrupting your natural melatonin levels. Melatonin usually kicks in at dusk making you naturally tired around bedtime. When you breastfeed during the night this upsets your routine and can have lasting effect.

i might have to try those capsules i have a terrible time trying to nod off at night i can lay there for 2-3 hours and not fall asleep...it goes through stages of gettig a bit better but atm im really bad with it...and for some reason its worse aound the time af is due

its like my mind is working overtime and the strangest things get in there and i jusyt cant swicth my brain off...but then once im asleep i can stay that way for 4-5 hours, but if something wakes me suddenly im wide awake and back to square 1
