Just finished watching the film "Monster" and thought it was really good, Charlize Theron plays a great part. I wanted to see it after watching Nick Broomfield's documentary about Aileen Wuornos a few years ago. I just watched it again on YouTube and found it really interesting.
(there are 10 parts, just click each part on the right hand side - if you can't find it, go to youtube and search the title of the documentary).
I just wondered what your opinions are on her? as I have just read a few (what I consider to be) shocking comments about her.
She obviously had a very hard life.. abandoned at 6 months old, raped many times by family/family friends, pregnant at 14, thrown out on the streets, then made to live a life of prostitution. I feel sorry for her, even now.. im not excusing what she did but I believe she was raped by her first "victim" and DID act in self defense, she was pushed too far and couldn't cope anymore. *By the way, if you watch that video you will see her say that it she murdered in self defense and that she is only lying saying it was cold blooded murder so that they don't stop her death sentence being carried out - she said this when she didn't know they were filming*
I LOVED the movie Monster. I've watched it so many times. I don't know how true the movie is, like if its exactly the same story or what the go is.
I've seen the doco a few times too.
The part I really hate about the movie is when the lovely, older man dies at the end and he was one of the good guys!
I reckon her partner in real life (Selby in the movie) takes no responsibility because as I understand in the doco, she knew far more about what was going on than portrayed in the movie.
I too felt sorry for Aileen. What a shit life, she never really stood a chance.
I've seen documentaries on her, i definitely recognized the name when i read the thread title. I know they made a motion picture based on her, but i have not seen that yet. I think she was mentally unstable, she did bring about her own execution though, sadly.
