these high profile cases seem to be much more harshly judged ... then i guess we dont hear about the low profile ones
he was part of a gang, i thought that they badly injured the train driver who later died, but not sure how much later?
and it caused a lot of embarrassment to all the authorities involved at the time, thereby contributing to his harsh sentence...
however he is a very old man now with a lot of health problems ... how does it serve anyone to keep him in prison to die, costing taxpayers a LOT of money, just to prove a point?
Not really related but I always think on these threads, the law and justice is not always right ... many people in prison are there not because they deserve to be, but because they were wrongly convicted, or because they can't pay fines .... there are a lot of women in prison who struggled to keep their families and end up being locked up because they couldn't pay taxes or fines or debts, and are put away to be made an example of or to prove a point.... Not everyone in prison is a "moral" lawbreaker as we might see it. Hence why they are so overcrowded ....

anyway thats off the point, because he definitely was involved and then definitely did escape! I voted yes but I probably should have said no  - I don't feel that strongly about his case in particular, but it might set a precedent for others (who have maybe done 'worse' things) which might not be such a great thing .....

I think he should. He is an old man in a lot of oain. It's not like he killed anyone or sexually abused anyone.

Like someone said he isnt a threat to socity he wouldnt be able to rob a piggy bank now let alone a train

I think he should be let out too. Hes 79, and no threat, and hes served 8 years so far, plus what he served before he broke out. Thats more than people get for murder, rape, etc. I think hes done his time.

Yeah, I say let him out. He has served 8 years, which as others have said, is more than some people get for worse crimes.

He is in a lot of pain, & is really not well. He has done his time now in my opinion! He didn't kill anyone, & he is hardly a threat now is he? Yes, if he had killed someone, or anything like that, keep him locked up, but he didn't. It's not even like he can go out & enjoy the rest of his life is it? x
