There is a similar story to this involving the man who did the lockerby bombings.

He shouldn't be allowed out.
I dont think you can compare someone who robbed a train decades ago with someone who killed people with a bomb.

So what, we just let prisoners out when they get old? If someone is serving a sentance that long it's for a reason

Personally, I've mixed opinions about this.

Part of me agrees with the comments above about his age, he is, after all, 79 years old. I highly doubt he will be in any fit state to rob anything else now. However, part of me thinks that he doesn't deserve to leave prison! He ran away from the crime he did by living abroad, if he'd have faced up to his punishment when he got caught and dealt with his punishment then yes, I'd be all for him being let out. As far as letting him out and exposing him to the community goes, I don't see much of a problem. I don't see what harm he can now do. But then again, he has a sentence to serve. Why should he be let out?

But if I'm completely honest, it's so easy for me to sit here and pretend I know what I'm talking about. I'm only 19 and there is so much I have to learn about what is right and what is wrong in this world, especially where the justice system is concerned.

Just wanted to add that people aren't just kept imprisoned incase they go out and commit another crime. They are sent to prison as a punishment for the crime the already commited. So yes, at 79 he would be too old probably to go out on the rob but he is being punished by being kept in prison.

+ If he didnt go into hiding, he would have served his time a long time ago and he'd be allowed to die in peace. His choice.

Most prisoners get let out at 70 unless they are deamed a threat to sociaty because the prison service is streached enough without having to turn a wing into an elderly care wing and employing people to wipe their arses.
