Question

My babies nationality?

I'm English and the babies father is French. The baby will be born in England but we want he or she to have both our nationalities if possible (we are both very patriotic and to have just one will cause big arguments FOREVER). Also can it have both an English & a French passport? I have no idea where to start or how it works? Anyone have any idea?

Your best bet is to ask at the French Embassey or look on their website. We are in a similar situation, I´m English, husband is German and baby will be born in Germany. As far as I know, we can apply for both passports for our child. I´ve not looked into it properly yet, but I go on an expats chat forum quite a bit and I know a lot of people on there have double nationality for their children.

We are in the same boat. DH is English, I am American. I really want our child to have both passports!

I'm the same again, I'm english and my fiance is australian, when I marry my fiance I can have a dual nationality, which will mean I can have an english and australian passport at the same time. I think the process goes through the australian embassy, where you have to go to a ceremony and say a pledge or something, which will mean baby will then automatically have both too. Not sure how it works in france though. So confusing xx

My boyfriend is English and I am from the U.S. The baby will be born here in the U.K. and since we are not married, it will automatically take on my nationality. However, I do believe we can apply for a British passport for the baby, as well.

My friends parents both originate from Russia how ever moved over here before she was born.

She was born in the UK and has both a Russian and British Passport.

Thanks everyone!!!!

I remember something about me being able to get a French passport and him an English one when we get married but to be honest it seems a waste of time when you think they're both E.U. countries. However if our baby doesn't have both we will be forever arguing over whether he/she is more English than French and vice versa. We already argue about it because my dad is from Costa Rica so my O/H has realised this makes the baby far more French than English even though I was born here to an English family and consider myself very much English!! The battle will never end.....
