Quite annoyed, quite a rant!!

Hiya,

I've just been talking to a friend, and was talking about LO and things im gonna be doing and using, i said im going to be giving her a dummy as i dont see the harm in them, i no some people hate them and hate seeing babies/kids with them, but i had dummies and they didnt do me any harm, she started going off on a rant how silly i was giving her a dummy and that i would regret it watch how my child will need her teeth fixed etc, she enraged me so much

I had dummies yes it turned in to a confort thing for me, when i was growing up, i still have a dummy now, very rarely use it, but when im having a very bad day or im starting to feel down and and do suffer from bouts of depression i use my dummy for like a few mins or whatever while im havng a cry or whatever it just helps me i dunno why i just cant gve it up
But mate said well you needed braces, but i didnt need them because i wasnt a bucky kid, i had them because my K9s are shaped like a vampire teeth, and the were slightly out and i also had 3 sets of teeth, i had to have the 3rd rows of teeth removed, but dentist said this was nothing to do with having a dummy, me and the father he has perfect teeth otherwise i would never of touched him with a barge pole!! But that has nothing to do with dummies, yes they can cause some problems but i have heard its mostly kids who suck there thumbs that sometimes need more help with there teeth as dummies are softer.

Anyway, i am just annoyed that she could even say this, she doesnt have kids and her opinion just wound me up!!! so i just blocked her on msn!! Cos i needed to get away from her otherwise i no i would of said somwething i would regret

Sorry had to get this off my chest xxx

Everyones entitled to their opinion, and entitled to express it, but I dont think they should be ranting at you not to! It really annoys me when people do that! Theres a woman at my brothers school thats an 'earth mother' as she calls herself and shes all up on breastfeeding, which people that can do it I respect them, and I kept changing my mind through pregnancy about breastfeeding, and then when he was born I decided yeah Im going to do it, but I couldnt for various reasons, and I didn't half get a guilt trip!! Going on about how I'm 'letting my baby down' and 'ruining my babies chances' and 'you'll see' and it made me feel so crappy! And at the time Id not long had him so the hormones were up everywhere and I just went home and cried about it!
I know how you feel hun and its really horrible.. Hope you cheer up soon

Lol I know they say not to give them dummies if you're BF but my friends LO has a dummy and has done since birth because she was constantly attached to the breast otherwise and she couldnt physically do it, and it never affected her, she was ok with both. And my LO has a dummy. I didnt want him to, but hes a very suckly baby and sucks his hands alot, and it's a habit I really dont want him to have. At least with a dummy hes not chewing his hands and getting slobber absolutely everywhere and making his face sore. I settles him quite alot as well, though he spits it out when hes dropping off to sleep and doesn't wake up crying for it so I dont think hes dependent on it..
Just do what you think is best. At the end of the day, if it affects they're teeth as they grow up..so what? Its what dental care and braces are for

Dummies can cause nipple confusion when BFing so they arent recommened early on but at the end of the day it's your choice.

I must say I was a bit to hear you say you use a dummy! Can I ask how old you are? Just wondered

I went to school with people that still use dummies. In year 11 there was loads of them that walked around with them in there mouths all the time and called themselves the 'Dummy Crew'. That I think is abit too far, but having it as a comfort in private I suppose is your choice. If it helps you why not I dont personally have anything like that my dummies went when I was 3 and my mum had my sister and the 'fairies' took them lol but..they left me money in return so lol
