I'm Currently Feeling: | I have a $900 vet bill... We have had THE worst year ever, so much has gone wrong and nothing seems to have gone right.
Well this morning it became very clear to me that our bad year wasn't over. One of my dogs was barking at one of my horses. This horse is 600kgs and wears shoes and he kicked her. I thought her leg may have been broken as she wasn't walking on it at all and the bottom joints were very wobbly.
I took her into the vet and yes, she has broken it. One of the bones has broken vertically in half. She also got pounced on by 3 of my other dogs afterwards and got some nasty cuts that were stitched up too.
She is staying at the vet tonights and she's being operated on tomorrow. I have to go in and help in surgery to cut the bill down a little bit...not much. I've never had to assist ops with my dogs before so i'm a bit scared about it
Anyway, even at a cheaper rate the bill will be $900...more if something goes wrong of course.
Please keep my gorgeous girl in your thoughts. This is a bill that we don't need and can't afford, but I work at the clinic so I can work it off. DH wanted to put her down instead as we really can't afford this, but I said no way. She is my girl and I love them all so much, they're like my kids, putting her to sleep is just not an option. Unfortunately I won't be bringing home a pay for a good few weeks, but she's worth it, I just hope she is going to be ok |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Oh thats terrible! But think you are def doing the right thing in not putting her down. At the end of day, whether you can afford it or not, a pet is part of the family and you can´t just give up on them.
Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes OK with the OP and she´s back to full fitness soon. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hope everything goes ok, i am sure she'll be fine x
I had a house rabbit that suddenly got ill and people thought i was nuts paying the hundreds of pounds vet bill even tho she had little chance of survival, at the end of the day i couldn't just let her die without trying x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Oh no
I hope the op goes ok. Pets are like family & when it comes to it you do what you can to pay for that bill so I am glad you have a way to do this without losing your doggy

I'm Currently Feeling: | Have you not got insurance you can claim it on?
My bro has just been in touch and told me their Golden retriever puppy is in Doggy Hospital being x rayed and possibly operated on, cos he won´t stop puking up. They are looking at 500 - 600 pound vets bill at the moment - ouch, but luckily have got some kind of pet insurance so they can claim on that. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thankyou for your thoughts everyone
I just got back and the surgery is OVER...thankgod. I had to shave the area, scrub it etc and then had to put on surgery clothes and assist in her op. Holding my own dogs bones together and helping to screw a big plate in is not my idea of fun! She is ok though...I didn't leave until she had started to wake up and warm up.
I have to work at the clinic AI'ing mares for a few hours tonight so I will check on her then, and she should be able to come home tomorrow. |
