i have moved house three times in the last eighteen months and my two cats which i have had since they were kittens had always been indoor cats until i had moved into the house in which i am in now. i kept them in for two weeks then decided to let them out. i took their food bowl away before going to bed then let them out first thing the next morning. at first they were just sniffing round the back garden and the slightest noise sent them running back into the house but each time they were let out the further they went. just make sure you keep the door open so they can run back in if they get scared, if the door isnt open they will make a run for it and prob not come back. also try butter on their paws its an old wives tale but it works.

If she is not an outdoors cat (don't take to it) she will not go far at all.........leave the door open initially when you let her out, let her see you are not shutting her out and instill cofidence in her that she can always get back too. One of my cats sits outside the backdoor and potters a few steps to do her business and then back in again. But othertimes she goes on a wonder. My male cat is always out andf goes further a-field, but always back when I call him for food!

They have really good homing instincts cats but i've heard about 4 weeks is best to keep them in this gives them chance to get used to their surroundings and get their bearings. I adopted a cat from the people who we bought our house off - he just kept coming back to the house i felt really sorry for him we couldn't get rid of him so in the end we kept him.

Sid marked our sofa too AND infront of us all!!!!! I put pepper on it and rubbed his nose in it and he has never done it since! I grew up with my parents doing this and we never had problems with cats and peeing indoors!

So I did the same when we got Sid & Titch and my cats are fine! I know it sounds harsh, but if they don't like the consequences, they learn not to do it!

Yeah, wherever they do their business you put the pepper on the spot, as they know what they have done there and then grab hold and rub their nose in......they struggle like hell as you are forceful, but they do not do it again!

My cats are never in trouble for doing their business indoors, honestly babe, it does work, it may take a few goes in different places, but once she gets used to "I pee, I then get my nose rubbed in it and more besides" she will soon stop!
