Wanna hear my weird tale?
Got home yesterday morning to this answering machine message "Hello this is Mr. Wright. I'm bed ridden and I can't get up. I think I need a doctor or something. I live at..." and then gives his address and hangs up.
What would you do?
I was just going to ignore it as it was obviously a wrong number and then I thought - what if he thinks he's left a message at the doctors and that someone is coming to him?
So I rang him back. I explained that he had left a message on my answering machine and he'd got the wrong number. He said "I know it's the wrong number, but I can't get up". Turns out he was 80 years old and had a fall the night before. He'd spent the night on the floor and I guess had just jabbed at numbers in the phone and got me.
So I rang 999 for him. He must've been confused not to have done that himself. Never had to do that before. Gave them his address and his phone number so they could call him back and reassure him.
Gave it 10 mins and rang him back to say that I'd rung the ambulance and had they called him back? He said no!
So I went and rang 999 again. They said ambulance was outside by then, but she promised to call him this time.
Fed Tommy and Charlotte who were having total dicky fits by then and called him back. WPC answered. They'd had to break in to get him. Poor old fella.
She told me name of hospital he'd been taken to and said that she thought he'd be ok. I rang them later in the evening to see how he was and they'd no record of him. Though blummin data protection didn't help cos they wanted his DOB. I've no idea! Tried his home today and no answer so I guess he's been kept in.
So weird though. Weird to have got our number and I dread to think what would've happened if I hadn't rung him back.
