I'm Currently Feeling: | Debate: Abortion http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7059169.stm
So heres whats in the news! ^
My Question:
Basically at 24 weeks a prem baby has a slim chance of survival either way its a chance so if a baby can survive life born at 24 weeks should the max time to allow abortion be decreased?
*Please keep the debate as friendly as possible for lots of different reasons and the fact we are all different people we will all have our own opinion. Don't take it the wrong way because someone doesn't agree with your opinion etc etc ... thats the whole point of 'debate'

I'm Currently Feeling: | I believe the time should be a lot less. My dd Ellie was stillborn at 25 weeks last year and i gave birth to her naturally. She was perfect in every way, just smaller. Everything is completely formed at that time, she had blond hair, eyelashes, eye brows, finger nails, absolutely everything.
I agree everyone has their own opinion but i believe abortion, if abosultely necessary, should take place a lot sooner than 24 weeks. | | | | Status: Offline

| I watched a programme last week, dispaches:abortion, it was all about this. I was going to make a post but decided not to in the end but I will comment.
TBH I wish I never watched the programme, the images were very graphic of fetuses aborted @ 23 weeks, well it was in pieces. The programme was extremely upsetting
once scene is of soemone aborting at 23 weeks, the next is a premature baby, 24 weeks old fighting for its life.
I dont agree on a prsonal level with abortion, but I do accept that sometimes there are very good reasons behind it. But I dont agree with aborting at 24 weeks and that it should definatly be brought down.
At the end of the day what gets me is the fact that no matter how small or how formed the fetus is, it is 'life' and something that will potenially grow into a person and derserves a chance at life. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | this is very interesting, you are doing a thread 'bout the topic, as I considered to start one as well!
as some of you know I am from Germany were the legal limit for an abortion is 12 weeks.
before I got pregnant I didn't know what the legal limit in UK was, but when I got to know, I have to say, I was really really shocked!!!
In my opinion 24 weeks is far to late, but I am generally against abortion, what means for me an abortion would never have been an option (only in case of rape!!!)
it is difficult to say when live starts after fertilisation, but in fact the development of live just starts straight after fertilisation, so I think the point on what to make a legal limit fixed must be changed in the first case! | | | | Status: Offline

I was shocked that they showed what happens in all that detail, you could even see the bones in the feet, it was terrible to see it ripped apart like that
I dont have a view on abortion either way, i think its personal choice, i dont however belive its a form of controception! (sp?) and i do think the limit should be 20 weeks and under, purely for the anomily scan is around that ime and it might show something the parents or baby cant cope with.

I'm Currently Feeling: | I am not against abortions as I feel it may be a preferred choice for many women depending on the situation, i.e. if they have been raped.
I do feel as though the deadline for abortion should be brought much much lower than 24 weeks!! Where I reside, the deadline is 18 weeks. | | | | Status: Offline
