| My stepsister gave birth to a little boy last month who was born at 25 weeks. He would have had a very good chance of survival if he wasn't damaged by the failed forceps attempts to get him out. He lived for a few hours, really fought hard to cling on. At the very end, after he was taken off the machines he lived for 40 minutes, opened his eyes and clutched their fingers. Apart from the awful bruising he sustained he was perfect, even had hair.
I definately think that unless in the case of a baby being born extremely disabled, faced with a short life filled with pain then the limit should be decreased. And my personal opinion is that it should be reduced to a lot less than 22 weeks even.
I don't disagree with abortions, just the limit that it currently is. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I am not against abortion, but if I got pregnant I don't think I could have an abortion unless there was a problem that would either cause the baby or myself to have a poor quality of life.
I don't think I could live with myself for doing it personally, but I know a couple of people who have done it, purely because the time wasn't right. But thats their choice.
My baby may only be developed 8 weeks, but I love it already, more than most people in the world! I would be devastated if anything happened.
But back onto the topic, I do think the limit should be lowered, unless in extreme circumstances. I was reading in the paper the other day about a journalist who was walking round a hospital and in one room doctors were fighting to save a baby's life at 23 weeks, and in the other a lady at 24 weeks was having an abortion. That doesn't seem right to me. |
