I just showed this to my fiancé. He's smiling like an idiot at your cake, meaning he likes. We're both big geeks. We may have found his groom's cake!

I've made a few plain wedding cakes, simple three or four tiers, with sugar roses and ribbon, but the most exciting cake I made was for a friend's birthday. It was a two tier circular battenburg, with fondant icing covered in filigree cut outs. Hard to describe, but I used a patchwork cutter and mexican paste and then laid the cut out shapes on. I used this cutter and the cake looked a bit like this one, but was pink filigree on plain white icing, with no pearling (cos I hate it).

Was lovely to look at, but very very exciting to cut open, and really not that difficult to make . Has to be cut right for the pattern to work though.

Aunty, I'd love to see a picture!

Fruit cake. I have decided fruit cake MUST be one of the flavors served at my wedding, made by me, aged at least a month in rum. OMFG, it's soooooo insanely good! there are amazing fruitcakes, and then there are terrible ones. I've turned some friends who adamantly hated fruitcakes into fans by having them try a properly-made, home-made fruit cake rather than the over-sugared store-bought crap-cakes. The only fruit cake I like is the one I make, which is a family recipe.
