Have you ever met someone born to a mother who drank? There is a ton of evidence backing up the harm of drinking while pregnant. You'd have to live under a rock to not know drinking harms an unborn child.

I was actually about to post this on here when I found this thread. I do think this was handled incorrectly. There has been no conclusive evidence on how much alcohol is too much during pregnancy. I personally don't plan on drinking and have stopped drinking while we are TTC, but I understand her point of view.

I think that was extremely wrong imo. Yes, if she was getting drunk they could've said something, but she was having a beer, one, or two. I had a couple of cocktails when I was pg, and if the bar staff had of asked me to leave I would've taken it further (I was on hols, had one at like 11am and one at 8pm). Who are they to judge a mother to be when they don't know her or how much she had consumed?

So do you go up to a smoking pregnant lady and pull the cigarette out of her mouth? It's doing just as much harm, if not more.

I don't think that a pregnant woman should drink. Not only for her baby's sake, but her own. I had one small glass of champagne at my husband's graduation while pregnant with my daughter...who was born with special needs. Even though there is no evidence that her condition (autism) is linked with alcohol...I regret that drink and I think it will haunt me for the rest of my life. Just say no!

I had my 2 drinks whilst being 34wks pregnant. I stand by my choice and resent anyone telling me otherwise.

I disagree, the person who will ultimately pay: the child. The taxpayers have the easy role compared to the life of suffering by the child...all because the mother decides that her wants are more important and is too stubborn or irresponsible to make a proper choice. Sorry if my words sounds harsh, but perhaps those with a child with special needs can relate to how difficult life is...a disability is FOR LIFE.

I agree that it is for life. I have a 35yr old aunt who is so severely disabled she wasn't expected to live past 1, then 5, then 14, 20 etc. It is through the great dedication of my grandma that she is still alive. However when my grandma passes (please never) there is only one other person that my aunt will eat from, and she's not even related to us.
I'm not sure of all my aunts disabilities, but she has a shoulder blade sticking out the front between her breasts, her feets are twisted. She is blind, I think has Cystic Fybrosis. She has to wear nappies and be in a wheelchair all the time. My grandma who is over 70 has to lift her out of the wheelchair into bed and the shower chair every day. My grandma is a saint. I think my mum said she had German Measles whilst being pg.

i dont agree with how it was treated but can understand where both sides are coming from its a hard decision

That is sooooooo wrong!

So wrong!

So unnessessary!

I get it if she's blind drunk, yeah, call her a taxi! But its just a beer.

Thats ridiculas!

I hope she gets a proper apology, because thats just so rude and really mean.

(I'll just add.... I do agree that woman should absolutely limit the amount of alcohol they consume, I had maybe 3 glasses wine total and only half at a time on any given day, in the duration of my pregnancy... BUT she was having half a pint of beer with her friends, and as it says in the article, 1 or 2 drinks in a week, is fine according to most GPs)
