Rant rant rant- was I in the wrong?

Grrrrrrr. My hubby is best man at our friend's wedding and he arranged the stag do. Anyway, folk said they wanted to go so my hubby put down their deposits (£80 per person). Then one said the week before the wedding that he couldn't go! HUbby tried to get a replacement and refund but no luck.

Anyway, I had been saying to hubby he needs to call the guy (we'll call him X) to get his money. I mean, ok it's only £80 but we have a baby on the way!

Well it's 6 weeks after the stag and I lost my patience. X hasn't contacted my hubby once to offer him the money so I told hubby I was going to email X and say that I think it's a bit unfair. So I did. (Clearly I wear the trousers, my hubby is so laid back he is horizontal!)

Well X wrote back saying that he had every intention of paying hubby back (aye right- he owes other folks money) and had a go at ME for emailing him instead of hubby. But is the point not that this guy is morally wrong not to have offered hubby the money? xx

I dont know...

If i had paid for someone to go and then they said they werent going to...and they agreed for me to pay and then re-pay id be pissed.
If he didnt agree me to pay in advance and then pay me back cos she didnt know if they were going to make it....then that would be my problem.

I'd be fuming at the pair of them!

I personally think £80 is a lot regardless of baby or not!!

I've banned DH from putting deposits down on anything for friends, they have to give the money to him first as this has happened to us before

I'd be annoyed as it sounds like he confirmed he was gonna go and you're DH put the deposit down. But saying that I would have got the money from each person for the deposit and not paid for them IYKWIM

If he said he's attend and was supposed to repay the deposit, and then backed out and now isn't paying, YES, he is not only morally responsible to re-pay you and your husband, but he might be legally responsible as well.

If your husband doesn't make this guy pay, he'll do the same thing to someone else since he got away with it once.
