Paypal?

Has anybody had their Paypal account hacked? - Reason I am asking is because it has happened to me today.

I was out viewing a house at 2pm. Came on the laptop to check my emails at 7pm and I had some off Paypal. Concerned I opened them, I froze. The emails were:-

The first one : You have added another email address to your paypal account. (This email is one I have never heard of before)

The second one : Your payment for £79.99eur for 2 years premium membership for a website has been completed.

The third one : Your payment of £49.98 to Mellissa ******** (I'll not post the last name) has been sent. This will go through once the recipient has accepted your money. I got another saying "Mellissa .... has accepted your payment. So it was completed.

The fourth one : Your payment of £49.98 to Mellissa ******** has been sent. This will go through once the recipient has accepted your money. Again I got another saying this had been accepted and completed.

The fifth one : (Off paypal) We have noticed unusual behaviour on your account, and think your paypal has been accessed by a third party. We have limited your account until you respond. It also said one transaction got them suspicious as the transaction was un-authorised.

I just want to cry. I was out whilst this was happening. This has never happened before. I want to know HOW somebody has been able to add an email address to my paypal account, how theyve withdrawn money from my bank to my paypal account then sent it to Mellissa ******** - I have opened 3 unauthorised claims (as I am not responsible for these) and I now need to wait for the " Seller " ( Mellissa ....) to respond about this money I have "Sent" to her. I just hope I can get it all back.

Has this happened to anybody else? If so, Did you change your bank account number? Or would I not need to if I just delete my paypal account all-together? So my bank details wont be on there?

Sorry I dont have any advice. But thats quite scary I always thought paypal was quite safe!

i wud change my pin, my acc NO, delete ur other card......or u can get mastercard prepaid cards (not the ones u top up!) u get them from clinton cards and its like a gift voucher but u can use them on paypal as a normal credit card....u just buy a £20/£50/£100 card and register it xx

Thankyou. I was thinking about changing my account number but would my child benefit/child tax/income support money cock up for abit if I told them I had a new acc number? I didnt really want to change it because I think I have got a house (he didn't say no, and he is getting in touch with me in 2 weeks to get my deposit etc off me) and if my money stopped I'd be knackered to pay my deposit....

I've found paypal to be a complete nightmare the last few weeks. My cards linked up and has always gone through no problems then a few weeks back it decided to start playing up and wouldnt be accepted?!?! I had £50 of stuff needing paying off to various people!!

Hope they get it sorted quickly and it dont cause too much hassle! x

Paypal will let u reset your security settings and also make sure none of the transactions go thru x

I had this happen aswell and still cant access paypal.
But i wont use it ever again anyway. You can change your security settings im sure.
I would also change your bank account details incase they somehow got hold of them?

I hope it gets sorted quickly x

I had my paypal hacked.
Firstly ring paypal and speak to them about it.
And go to your bank and get all your card and account details and everything changed.
Hope its sorted soon hon xx

Did you click on any links in your emails ...theres fraudulant emails and when you click what you think is an innocent link is actually giving third party your details.

Any paypal emails Im sure do NOT have links they ask you to go direct to your account by signing in via your browser manually and not by the link in email and alerts to your account will show if offical.

You will want to inform your bank not to allow paypal transactions OUT you can change your banking details (account sort code etc if you want) and other payments will go in - it will still be reconised as your account but to change details with CB etc as soon as you have them.

Also login and change your password.
