Question

Any fellow Scottish teachers - advice needed!!!

Sorry, I wasn't really sure where to post this...

I'm a secondary school teacher in Scotland and hubbie and I are ttc for the first time. I was just wondering if any other members were also teachers in Scotland?

If so, can anyone help me with a few questions?:

1 - what is our maternity leave entitlement? (the TES website was a bit confusing on this matter)

2 - Hubbie and I might be moving from Aberdeen to Edinburgh for his job. This will mean me having to get another teaching job (I have taught in Aberdeen for 8 years). Does this mean I would lose my maternity pay entitlements if I were to become pregnant? Or, can you carry your entitlement over from one authority to another (as long as its within Scotland)?

I know I am not pregnant yet, but I am really worried about it. My hubbie told me about his possible job offer this week and it would be really good for his career, but as we are ttc, I am really worried about this maternity leave thing.

Thanks!

I dont know any info to do with schools, i only know the basic entitlements for everyone.

For maternity leave you are entitled to 9 months paid leave, this is for everyone.
Your authority might allow more paid or unpaid, my work place for example will allow you another 9 months unpaind leave after your 9 months paid.

You do need to be with your employer for 26 weeks for the higher maternity pay (cant remember what its called, think its SMP?)
If you get pregnant and have been with your employer under 26 weeks there is another entitlement but its a bit less than the other one. If you cant get either then you can get income support.

WOW 9 months paid leave, I need to move! With my job I am only paid for 6 weeks for a vaginal birth, 8 weeks for a c-section and only 60% of my pay. I also have to be back by the 12th week or they fire you. I hear in Sweden they give you one full year off paid. Sorry totally not about Scotland but when I saw 9 months I was amazed
