I boil my kettle with fresh water, leave it for 20 minutes then pour it in the bottles. I then cool them quickly by putting them in a bowl full of cold water then put them straight in the fridge. I then make up each bottle as needed by adding the formula and heating up.

I use bottled water as well- but not bottled water meant for adults. They sell gallon jugs here of pre-sterilized baby water- is that not sold over there? I then make up bottles as needed, adding powder at room temp. When she was really tiny and we were transitioning from EBM I fed her sterile ready-to-drink formula. I'd like to make up bottles beforehand and store them in the fridge but Carmen doesn't have a set amount that she usually drinks, and I got tired of guessing and wasting formula!

I have a big jug with a sealed lid on which I steralise every day then fill with boiled water to cool. Then when I need to make a bottle I add 1oz into a bottle add my powder then fill up with the cool boiled water out ofthe jug. I find the powder dos t mix as well to cool water and with the powder being added to boiling water it kills any germs. It's also ready right when i need it at the right temp xx

I tend to make the bottles fresh if I can - but do premake a couple a day and put them in the fridge - in particular the one incase there is a night feed required, and the first one for the morning feed.

I was advised by my HV that the formula MUST be made with water at a temp over 70 degrees - not water that is cooled- or the possible bacteria would not be killed. Prior to that I was boiling the water I needed- putting them in the bottles then adding powder when required.

She advised me not to do this! However I know HV all seem to give different advice so who can say whats right?

We were told that boiling the water is unnecessary, however we do use filtered water because our water tastes very mineral-y here. We just add water to all the bottles we will need for the day and then mix the formula in later. At night time we do make all the bottles up for our night feeds and feed straight from the fridge.

i boil the water and put it in the bottles then just add the powder as each feed is needed. I do heat the water up tho before adding the powder as i think i mixes better with warm water

I'm currently using cartons on the advice of the midwives at least until he is 4 weeks old, my little man is eating loads so going through so much food.

Have i got this right, if i premake bottles for the day/night, i use cooled boiled water (about 30mins) then can i add the formula and then store in the fridge for no more than 24hours? (a bit like cartons?) or just store the water in the fridge and add formula when warmed up?.

Those of you who leave the bottles out at room temp, do you just add the formula and go?, does that kill the germs?. Sorry for all the questions new mum alert!!
