How did you tell your family/friends?

Hey all!

We've very recently decided to get married and we're ring hunting this Sunday. I'm worried about my parents reactions, and his of course. Only because we're their kids and they'll always see us that way (we're 22).

I know they wouldn't disapprove, but they may be shocked...

I just don't know how or when lol. We've been together 5 years, so it's not too soon :-)

How did you announce it? what was everyones reactions? x

We just said we're getting married LOL.

I am 21 and OH is 23. We have been together since I was 16 and he was 18 so its not as though we're rushing!

My mum said I was stupid (but shes never been married and wont marry my dad even though they have been together for over 20 years! All because all the men my nana married were t***s)

My mum will never be *happy* that we're getting married but OH's family are and his mum said its the 'right' thing to do as we have the kiddies xx

We rang his parents soon afterwards but waited until the following evening to ring mine. That was only because he proposed at like 11pm and we were phoning his parents at 11:30pm and my parents would freak out fearing the worst if I rang them that late whilst his parents are OK with it!! Our friends at the time in Aberystwyth were there, our close friends saw Gareth propose and more casual acquaintances were treated to a big announcement at midnight as he proposed at RocSoc. We missed the announcement though as we were outside on the phone to his parents!! Don't really have many friends back in the Cardiff area so I let a couple of people know by email when we got home and then announced it on Facebook once we'd told my parents so that everyone else we knew could find out. The darts league found out on the Thursday night when we had a game so half the town knew by Friday! As we're in a university town we make new friends every year so we still get to tell people that we're engaged once we meet them. Last year for that this year though as by Freshers week next year we'll be married!! I'm 21 now and was 19 when he proposed, he's 25 and was 23. Everyone was so happy for us, even though my parents are still a little sceptical and they're paying for the wedding!!

Well firstly congrats!

My partner proposed to me in london. He had taken me for 4 days sightseeing and to meet all his friends down there and on the last night in our hotel room he proposed. Had the ring already which he had bought in london :-)

We told my parents when they collected us from the train station an they were very happy for us. I am 28 and he is 29 x

When we actually booked our wedding (we'd been engaged or 2 years) we just text both our mums and said 'Do you have a wedding hat?' the text we got back was 'no, why?' so then we text 'well you better get buying one then '

We wanted it to be a surprise so we didn't tell anything to anyone. We sent out invitations 4 months before the wedding. It was a complete surprise for them and everybody approved.
