Loan or save?

For your wedding are you getting a loan or saving?

And if you are married, Did you get a loan and wish you had saved or save and wished you had got a loan to do it sooner?

Should be interesting!

I chose 'our parents are paying for it'. BUT, we're paying for most of it, not really with saving, just paying as things come up. Our parents gave us a total of 3k, and the wedding+honeymoon is about 8k, so we're alright. xD

My parents paid for my wedding.... I just pitched in for the photography because it was important to me to have a decent photographer and it threw my budgit off.

We have the money saved and want to pay for it ourselves so that it really is our day. However, our parents want to contribute so they are paying for our honeymoon which is amazingly kind of them.

We wanted to start married life debt free and we are lucky that we are able to.

Both sets of parents are paying for the reception, we're getting everything else plus the honeymoon.

We've managed to pay as we go along rather than save, but that is just the deposits for everything. Once xmas is out of the way we'll be saving for the outstanding amounts due around June '10.

Me and my OH aren't on massive wages, probs about 21000 between us and we're managing to save 6000, it can be done without a loan and not having to make too many compromises x

We will save whatever we have. We've provisionally booked August 2012 but unless my OH's debts are gone and we've got some money behind us, it won't be happening.

I'm not prepared to go through the debt thing all again.

Thanks girls! We're saving just now too. OH's parents won't pay for anything - I wouldn't even ask them and my parents are divorced so it doesn't feel fair to take money from either of them - although my Dad wants to contribute I said no!

We're actually going to Kenya so everyone has to pay for themselves. It's an easy way of cutting costs and still achieving the wedding of our dreams.

I'm paying for my dress and flowers are being made already so they can be stored. I think we find it easier paying things as you can.

We were talking to someone who said they'll be paying for their wedding for the next 7 years

My parents are paying for as much of our wedding as they can. We're getting lots of practical help from OH's family- his mum's making the cake and helping with catering the evening reception, his aunty's making my dress and the flowergirl's dress. Our friends are also helping out- I have a friend doing my makeup, another friend doing my hair, another friend doing the photography, another friend making my headdress and I'm going to ask a friend who's stuying Film and TV to do the videograohy and another friend to put the video online! We're also going to have friends providing the music at the evening reception instead of having a DJ or band. The only things we're actually paying for are OH's suit and accessories!! I love that everything's going to be so personal to us and that everyone we know wants to be involved in whatever way they can to make it a truely special celebration of our relationship!

We saved until we had enough to pay for the venue before even booking it

We'll continue to save and pay for things as we go. Mine & OH parents have both contributed (or will do) too.

Theres no way I would have got a loan for it

We've got just under 4 years until we get married so we are going to try and save as much as we can within that time, so probably pay for most of it ourselves but both of our parents will help as much as they can.
