Burping/Winding

Does anyone have any tips for speeding up the winding/burping process? My LO has wind and it takes twice as long to burp him as it does to feed him - not great at 3am!

I am also ALWAYS wrong footed with the little monster when it comes to sick-up. I can burp him and put him down and he seems fine, and then out comes the sick - I'm getting through sheets, pillowcases and muslin cloths like there is no tomorrow! Any tips ladies?

I tend to stop my lo after about 5 mins feeding, hold him upright, and burp him over my shoulder. I also say burpies as hes doing it to create a learnt response from him soon too which mihgt help in the future.

If im close to end of feed and i feel he has swallowed air or tummy is gurgling i lie him down to wrap him, and often on lifting him the burp will come up. The other trick i learnt from the nurse was to sit him on my knee while holding under his chin and patting his back. Dont have much advice for bringing up the milk, but maybe just make sure there is a towel under him?

Hope it helps!

I have always found Ellie spits up when there are still bubbles in her tum, so I do wind her for a long time, but rather that then all the feed going to waste and her eating again

In the beginning when her wind was really bad and she couldn't bring it up we used Infacol, which helped massively. After a couple of weeks we stopped using it, and as she has grown I have found bringing up the wind easier. What always works for us is if I walk about the room holding and "bouncing" her (or rather - me bouncing! up and down) gently while patting her back. Or putting her tummy so it is flat against my chest and rubbing up her back with some pressure (as if squeezing the wind out)

Also just to add as another poster mentioned I don't let her go the whole feed without a burp - I wait for her cue (she tugs at her hair/claws at her face when theres a bubble bothering her) so I stop and wind her and then let her carry on.

Thanks everyone. The nurse came out today to weigh him and has suggested a rolled up towel under the mattress so the air comes up easier. My LO is such a windy pops, he's done some right loud ones today - better than his Daddy could do!
