I think my lo has lip tie!

I don't know what prompted me to look today but from the pics I see online, I think he may have it. We've never had any serious problems breastfeeding apart from that initial latch on pain that lasted several weeks and the slow weight gain. Who would I see to confirm it? Should something be done? I don't want it to interfere with speech development or eating later on. Anyone with some knowledge or experience with this? Thank you

Hi Maggs, as far as I know it's very difficult to get anything done about lip ties in the UK - there's litterally 1 or 2 doctors who will clip it and if it isn't bothering you or the baby, they probably wouldn't do anything about it... unless it does effect speech or eating. I've heard from other people that babies usually out grow them or they tear naturally. I have 1 and so does my LO.

^WSS. Myself and one of my son have four lip ties in various places in our mouth-it has never affected us or caused a problem xx

I heard that they don't often do anything in the UK about them. It's got me wondering if that's the cause of his poor weight gain now...
