bf etiquette for older babies

so Ollie is now v avant guard in his bf style and has also started pulling my top down and burying his head in my breasts etc which isn't a problem at home but maybe going out so how do you establish bf etiquette - at the mo it is v cute but am I allowing a bad habit that makes it awkward out in the real world?

i never allowed EJ to pull my top up or down to feed he could tug on it to signal he wanted a feed and id ask him " do you want milk now " and get him to say yes or sign "milk" for me before feeding him and tere bwere times id have to tell him no or wait so if he had been pulling down my top it would have been akward

I've also never allowed Isaac to feed if I'm not happy with how he's asked for it. If he pulls at my top, I cuddle him and distract him before offering a feed later on. He never pulls on my top for a feed. I've also never tolerated him playing with the other boob while he feeds, so he doesn't do that either. I think it's a case of nip any behaviour you're not comfortable with in the bud!

I have to agree. I set pretty stict rules around when and how Otter was allowed to feed once he got to about a year old. If he started to pull my top down or cry or beg for it, no matter where we were, I told him no and distracted him with something else. DK has recently started doing the same thing -- pulling my top and shoving her hands down my shirt. I've only let her get away with it a couple of times because she was asking for extra feeds when not feeling well. Other than that, she's not allowed to feed if she does that.

It's a matter of personal opinion. If you let him do it and feed him when he doesn it, he will eventually do it in public and then freak out if you don't NIP. If you are okay with that scenerio, no big deal. But if you don't like that idea, then I would start to find ways of getting him to ask more subtly.

I think this behaviour has slipped in as since beginning of november Ollie has been either teething or ill as I went back to work for 6 weeks and he picked tons up from nursery - since then I've had a bereavement and been busy with his birthday - at his party tho he nearly had a hissy fit when I wouldn't feed him and at home climbs on and off the sofa for quick feeds - and I think he's teething again (first canine tooth) so worry he's looking for comfort. Bit he definitely thinks my boobs belong to him haha will have to get strict I think - it's going to be tough!
