EMA (and anyone else with babies with reflux)

just loking for some advice and woyld like to know what symptoms of reflux your LO has ?

Im at the end of my tether now, Iv been told by the HV and the doc that it is colic, but Im sure its much more than that. we tried everythnig, infacol, gripe water, coleif, cut dairy out of my diet....nothing madea bit of difference!

So we have been riding it uot for the past few weeks, and onny now Iv thought it could be reflux. Its started to get me down becuase I feel like I am doing something worng because she is never settled!

ok her symptoms are.......

* crying alot, very unsettled
*will only fall asleep being held upright, I cant lay her down while she is awake as I can guarentee she will start crying!
*sick alot, constantly throughout the day, sometime sick is curdled and sick out of her nose?!?
*fussing whilst feeding, latching on and off and crying.
*bascally if she is awake she isn't happy, she cries, whinges, unsettled, untill she falls asleep
*and she also does 'wet burps' alot aswell

I hate discussing things like this with HV and docs becuase I know it gets brushed off and they think your exaggerating ect, Im not very good at standing my ground...I get nervous about bringing it up, I dont know why! I jsut hope today she will listen, I jsut want to try her with infant gaviscon becuase if it helps I think I will have a completely different baby!

Sounds like it to me. Bren would spit up loads, very unsettled when sleeping, he would sometimes cry when feeding and had a dry cough when laid on his back.

Sounds like it to me too, She cries during feeds (when you stop to burp her), if she has more than 4 oz she's sick, she's sometimes sick in her sleep, cries in her sleep etc etc.. She's on infant Gaviscon and Domperidone.. Good luck getting some help x

thanks, iv had trouble getting her to feed today, shes just cried everytime, she searches so she is hungry, then as soon as she latches on and has a bit, she just cries and cries, I try several tiems to feed her with no luck, so then I have to put her up on my sholdour and nurse her and pat her back til she falls asleep.

I feel so sorry for her The HV said to talk to the dr about it at her 8 weeks check and he might prescribe gaviscon, I really hope he does becuase I feel so sorry for the poor lil thing, although she is gaining weight perfectly and thats what they are usually concerned about, so I hope he listens! xxxx

it will help if you keep her upright for feeds as much as possible. Keep her up at least 30 minutes after a feed. And for her to sleep on an incline, like her carrier.

Sound like it hunni, jacob is the same. Just do what i did and go the doc and insist on them giving you something and if it works then great.

Even with the gaviscon jacob still vomits etc so doc giving it a week and if it not improved he will be put on something stronger.

Good luck hunni make sure you stand your ground!! XXX

Tegan has Domperidone and Gaviscon and still vomits a lot, I think all they can do is reduce it there is no way to get rid of it entirely!

Gabbi was doing really well, but over the past week or so (since we both had the snuffles), the routine is not going so well. I'd never heard of reflux before! She has a lot of the symptoms, refusing to eat/eating less at times although still hungry (like looking for my nipple!), cat napping, less sleep in general, irritable and screaming or general whinging, spit up/slight vomitting, always gets hiccups (although she has had these since birth, after each feed).

Another thing I've noticed. The last couple for days, after feeding, I rest her on my shoulder, she likes it there, but she's started thrashing her legs and arms and her head at times (head butting is not good!), she only does it when she is upright, not when she's lying down.

In fact she's off again now! Fed her about 3/4 of an hour ago, put her down after 30 mins and after 5 mins screaming. Then settles for 5 mins then screaming again. She has been like this for about 5 days now.

Not sure what to do as not sure if reflux is what they call it here in BG! OH says to give her some water after feeding to get rid of milk in her mouth or after she's been sick to rinse her mouth/throat. What do you all think? I have to say, we as adults wash our mouth out when we've been sick, same for babies??

If it is reflux giving her water will make it worse. Go to see a doctor because when reflux really gets going its bad. And it comes on at any stage too, Tegan was 4 weeks when hers first started.
