increasing production?

I'm writing about pumping, not direct breast feeding: Do you think it is better to pump milk until the reserves are nearly empty each time or to have a lot of shorter pumping sessions a day?
I've been reading about and am baffled...I have enough milk right now but would love to up production.

Thanks ladies.

When I was pumping and trying to up production, I pumped until I was dry- continued for a minute or two after I was getting nothing, and did this at a minimum of every 2 hours. It worked well for me- I ended up being able to pump a total of 12+oz per sitting.

Exactly.

Production increases when the storage tanks in your breast are completely dry, and there is stimulation beyond that.

Frequency without complete draining will not increase production much.
