Alcohol Consumption

It has been a while since some of us have had any alcoholic beverages and to be honest I have been craving something for a while!!!! I had no intentions on breastfeeding Jaedan but I changed my mind last minute and decided that it would be best for him so here we are breastfeeding!!! Anywho, OH's birthday is next week and we are planning to go out so If I wanted to have a drink that night, what should I do before/after to ensure I'm not giving any of that to my baby?? Or should I just leave the drink until I wean him?? I just want to make sure I'm making the best choice, even if it means making further sacrifices and waiting for a few months.. Any advice/comments will be appreciated.. Thanks ladies!!!

Well, in all honesty, when I was attending my pre-natal classes the teacher told me that not very much alcohol goes through to your breast milk. She said if you are going to drink, wait at least 3 hours after you've had your final drink before breastfeeding your child. But I would advise you to just pump and feed him that until the next day if you're going to drink.

I was told by the nurse beer/cider increases your milk production....one beer/cider per day for me and I have seen the results..it's true.

I have to say alcohol should be limited while breast-feeding. There are better ways, safer, healthier ways to keep up supply and increase supply.

Ill admit to having one or two drinks when we've been out (for our anniv ersary) and then Ive fed Seth and its done no harm so far. If youre worried though you could express and bottle feed

If you're sober enough to drive, you're sober enough to breastfeed

Cheers!

The most I've had while BF is three drinks, it hasn't done Kaya any harm. You'll find that the alcohol will affect you more anyway having gone so long without a drink.

Exactly what my doctor said...I've had the odd guinness the night before when I'm planning to pump in the morning (usually when Sam goes to bed for the evening though) and some pimms at a BBQ last week x
