Breasts not changing

I am really hoping to bf my baby for at least a year, but reading all these pregnancy and baby books is starting to make me a little paranoid. From the beginning of the pregnancy I have been waiting for all these changes in my breasts that supposedly happen, but nothing! My breasts are still small, the areola is not any bigger or darker, my nipples haven't darkened at all... They're just very dry & itchy, which makes them uncomfortable to touch. Also I have quite short nipples, which my doctor said might make breastfeeding difficult.

So I'm starting to get a little worried...hopefully for no reason! Will I be able to breastfeed normally? Do some women just not have these obvious changes? What's going on?

I really want to bf my baby

I think that you still have time. My nipples didnt turn into bulls-eyes until 33-ish week and I never had any other indication of them "working" until my milk actually came in on Day 4. So dont worry and the most important thing is that you're planning on BFing.

I was the same, don't worry. I don't think mine ever got any darker, and only got one cup size bigger while I was pregnant. It was only on about day 4 when I woke up looking and feeling as if I'd had an overnight boob job that I felt as if something was finally happening! My nipples never stuck out much either, but I'm still breastfeeding after nearly 4 months. Good luck x

Oh, and not saying yours is, but some doctors can be a bit clueless when it comes to breastfeeding - don't let that put you off or worry you when you start

Try not to worry. Although my breasts did get bigger during pregnancy- that was the only change I had. There is still time for your nipples to "poke" out. But if you are truly worried or just need reassurance, I would seek the advice of a bfing consultant now. If in fact your nipples are inverted or too short, there are things you can do prior to giving birth to try and correct it. But I agree with whom ever else said it, some docs are just clueless about bfing- so don't necessarily take their word for it.

I didn't have any changes in my breasts either, even after the baby was born. Like some of the ladies said, I started noticing changed in the size and my areolas etc. after baby was born and I had been feeding for a couple of days. Don't get discouraged!!
