dummies?

rhys never had a dummy and ive always been really against them but ffion is such a sucky baby. she always wants to be latched onto me even though shes not hungry, she sucks and then just lets the milk dribble out when colin holds her she sucks his finger all the time and seems really contented when she does.

what do you think i should do? cave in and give her a dummy for a moments peace?

shes been latched onto me for most of the day and i have stuff i need to do

I say give her the dummy, you can soon limit the amount of time she uses it in the day.

Carly was exactly like that and the dummy worked a treat , where as ella isnt so much so doesnt really use her dummy ( i try when she is just wont settle) but she wont take it maybe for a minute but thats it!

Id try it and give it a go , after all with having 2 kids you need have some time to do things!!!

I'd give it to her too with the idea that you'll have to be REALLY cognisant of letting her suck you completely empty and stimulate production during her growth spurts. Don't let her detatch and give her the dummy when your body needs those production cues her sucking provides

Thanks for all your advice, i went today and bought two orthadontic dummies and shes been settled in her crib since we got home

im going to try limiting her time with the dummy, like just when im trying to settle her, if she settles without it then great but if not then ill give it to her.

ill try and remember what you said Margerle about when she has a growth spurt.. i guess when shes hungry she wont settle with the dummy anyway???

im all new to this and the breastfeeding too and you girls have been so fantastic

production stimulation doesn't happen during a feed but AFTER...when the breast is completely empty, and she continues to suck. So during those growth fussy times make sure you allow her extra time on the empty breast rather than putting her in the crib with a dummy

We caved and started giving Seth his dummy this weekend because he was crying for (what we thought) was food every 30/45 mins. He just has it at night time though and we try to comfort him ourselves through the day. We thought if we did it that way he might realise when it's time to go to sleep too. He usually spits it out just before he drops off though.

Good luck hun!

xxx

Are you BF'ing Linzi?... if so he IS crying for food. This is their first big growth spurt. (This is when they'll make up for any weight lost right after birth - if he has any to gain back. ) He's working on getting your body to make the perfect amount of milk for him.
