Is it normal?

Pierre feeds every hour and a half to two hours. He feeds for about 20 mins to half an hour at a time and usually falls asleep at the breast. Then I put him in his moses basket but he wakes up only 10 or 15 mins later & cries till I pick him up. He really hates to be put down & when I let him sleep in my arms he sleeps longer.

The only way I get any sleep is to sleep on the sofa whilest feeding him & I'm worried that giving in and letting him do this is only going to encourage it to continue or is he too young and should I just do what he wants for now? I'm sure that for part of the time at least he is just suckling to comfort himself because whenever something happens to 'upset' him like a nappy change or a bath, he wants feeding straight after.

He's not even a month old

He continuously got comfort and warmth and presence and sustinence from your body for almost a year 100% of the time. Now, it's much less than that, and I'm sure a bit of a sad thing for him.

He is going through a growth spurt now and he's trying to set in more mature milk (if you are BF).

Right now is a time when he needs much (and often) reassurance that you will be there when he needs you! (you and I know you will, but again this poor lad has been sustained by you 100% of the time almost a year... quite a shock to be born!

I suggest reading Dr. Karp's book on the "fourth trimester" and why it's so important for baby's development. It goes into why babies are really born 3-4 months too early for their mental development. And that first 3-4 months are very important.

Thanks. Being pregnant seemed so simple compared to actually having a baby. I thought I was prepared but actually I know nothing.

Very normal behaviour in this house!! Try not to stress , we just go with the flow. Dominic spends very little time sleeping in his moses basket. Favourite position is in my arms, snuggled up against my big boobs, anywhere he is being cuddled basically!! We have bought a fleece sling so I can try and get a few jobs done while he sleeps. Enjoy those cuddles.

my LO also wanted to comfort suck a lot in the beginning and wanted to be nursed to sleep!
I was stuck on the sofa as well!

now it changed, only @ nighttime she falls asleep on the breast! @ daytime the breast is solely for eating purpose.

don't worry to give in, I think they need the comfort in the beginning and it will change on its own!

I gave her the comfort she needed
