The only way I get any sleep is to sleep on the sofa whilest feeding him & I'm worried that giving in and letting him do this is only going to encourage it to continue or is he too young and should I just do what he wants for now? I'm sure that for part of the time at least he is just suckling to comfort himself because whenever something happens to 'upset' him like a nappy change or a bath, he wants feeding straight after. |
He's not even a month old
He continuously got comfort and warmth and presence and sustinence from your body for almost a year 100% of the time. Now, it's much less than that, and I'm sure a bit of a sad thing for him.
He is going through a growth spurt now and he's trying to set in more mature milk (if you are BF).
Right now is a time when he needs much (and often) reassurance that you will be there when he needs you! (you and I know you will, but again this poor lad has been sustained by you 100% of the time almost a year... quite a shock to be born!
I suggest reading Dr. Karp's book on the "fourth trimester" and why it's so important for baby's development. It goes into why babies are really born 3-4 months too early for their mental development. And that first 3-4 months are very important.
