Why after 4 and a half mons is my baby rejecting the breast?

Hey all

My lactation consultant is a bit slow in getting back to me and so I was hoping for some of your opinions on my problem.

I have a 4 1/2 mon old baby girl who has taken to breast feeding like a fish to water. She has been fed one bottle a day of formula since 5 1/2 wks with no problems. I am finding in the last couple of weeks she has begun to fuss quit a bit while breast feeding... but put the bottle in her mouth and she is fine. Now I was told it may be her teething and I think she may be starting on that but would they not fuss for both the bottle and the breast? She also seems to like to look around more while feeding which she can do easily with the bottle but can not on the breast... could this be it?

Why else would she be starting to self wean (that is what it seems like to me)? Could the taste of my milk be changing cause of a possible period coming (have not had one yet) -or- there is a very slight chance that I could be pregnant again... could that be mucking stuff up with the hormones and milk? I am at a loss and just about ready to just put her on the bottle but I am afraid that I will regret not making it to my goal of 6 months... I only have 5 wks left to go.

Any suggestions? Please help?

my daughter has also started to look around a lot more when breastfeeding, and fussing a little. my bf consultant said that it may be that my let-down is has slowed a little, and with a bottle, she gets milk as soon as she starts sucking. i just let her fuss until i let down and then she's fine.

tbh I don't have a clue, but I can imagine it has something to do with either a growth spurt or teething!

from a bottle it is far more easy for them to drink, whereas on the breast they need to put in some effort!

both teething or growth spurt could be something what makes your LO kind of too lazy to feed from the breast!

rule out any pregnancy and possibly don't give the bottle anymore?

when they are older they start to look around whilst feeding as feeding gets a social activity
