7 months of expressing, but going to stop

Well I've been exclusive expressing for Andrew since 4 days after his birth and now, 7 months on, I'm going to have to stop.

He's simply not growing sufficiently on the EBM, even with Fortifier, so the Paediatrician wants me to move him onto super-high-calorie formula instead.

I should feel proud that I've managed 7 months, and look forward to not having to stay up till 11pm and then get up at 3am, especially now that Andrew sleeps through.

But I'm still a little sad.

You have done an amazing job, I fully appreciate just how much time and effort expressing takes up and can only congratulate you on having done seven months!

You've done amazingly well! You are right, you should feel so proud of yourself for having done this for Andrew, I can't imagine the level of work involved in exclusive pumping. A huge well done from me!

That's spectacular welldone! Can I ask you what your pumping routine was and how much you were getting each time? Did you do one boob at a time or two?

I've been a double-pumper since the early days, I even managed to adapt a Medela Swing to act as a double pump once the hospital's loan pump was returned! Wearing a harness to hold the shields in place and free up my hands, that was the best move I ever made (means I can be on BnB on my netbook!)

I started with 3hrly pumping but struggled with amount, and one midwife suggested that it could be too frequent for me, so I changed to 4hrly and have stuck to that since, including a 3am pump.

Amount - it's taken me ages to get to 100ml per time, and that's with the assistance of Domperidon. Fenugreek did nothing for me. Luckily my baby's so tiny that 600ml/day is sufficient - or was until last week!
