6 weeks - Tongue Tie diagnosed.. grrrr - Thanks redpoppy! :)

Sorry have to vent - i'm SO angry.

I've been having "Supply" issues since day 1..
a) MW on day 3 told me to quit BF, as I was just one of the unlucky ones..
b) HV advised to go cold turkey and just quit formula, "he would live" as supply would increase.
c) LLL advised the same, to nurse on demand, and to have a babymoon, and to cut down FF each day until exclusively bf.

WELL, after none of the above working, and me getting upseter and upseter, and trying fenugreek and getting frustrated, I read Redpoppys post about her sucess with a lactation consultant....

I called one, and found a WONDERFUL woman an hour from me who worked on the NHS who agreed to see me..

Literally 15 seconds of being in her office, she said.. "Well, he's tongue tied, thats not a good start".. I was like WHAT?? I cant believe in 6 WEEKS of being sore and frustrated and asking MW/HV/LLL people that no-one thought to check him out!!

She imediatly faxed a consultant in North Manchester Childrens Hospital for an urgent appt, and has also written to my GP to get him to prescribe Dompreidone to give me a boost, and hopes the combination of the two will sort the BF issues we have.

SO, THANK YOU redpoppy, if it wasnt for your post, I wouldnt have thought to look for a Lactation consultant!!

That's poor from the health professionals. I was lucky with my hospital. They spotted the tongue-tie within 24 hours and they had a really helpful BFing expert who gave really good advice. I'm so glad that you found some help and glad that you posted as the more people that know that help is out there the better.

Glad that this finally got spotted. Hopefully once you have the "snip" things will all start to improve.

There's been a few threads on here about tongue ties not being spotted. Its crazy that its not the first thing that is checked when someone is having feeding problems. Also another case of someone having to go out there and find help themselves rather than getting it from their MW/HV. Its no wonder so many people give up!

Good luck xx
