worried as i fall asleep at night bf

A lot of nights i fall asleep in bed bf and am sooo worried that i may harm Lo
Is it normal to fall asleep? I feed him whilst resting slightly sat up and i can fall asleep like that or with him resting on my chest, lying on his front. he wears a 1tog gro bag and is always on the outside of our 4.5tog duvet.
I always seem aware of him but am worried I might not be one night and something bad will happen.
please advise

This used to happen to me a lot at the beginning and I was so worried there was nothing I could do to stop it so instead I decided to co sleep so that we could both fall asleep together and be safe doing so. I love it and haven't looked back since.x

We do co-sleep most of the time but sometimes he ends up gurgling and cooing at me and we end up not sleeping
Is it ok too fall asleep while bf?

If you are practising safe co-sleeping then it is not 'dangerous' to fall asleep with him whilst BFing, however the sfae position to do this would be lying down as it would be more dangerous to fall asleep with him held on your stomach/chest incase you rolled or he rolled off etc. Look up on how to feed lying on your side so you can practise this.
Its good to have things prepared and set up so that if you fall asleep whilst feeding you are in the absolutely safest position possible.

Agree with AS!

I used to fall asleep BFing all the time. I was doing safe co-sleeping strategies and never had a problem.

I swear, this became such a fright for me (I feed sitting in a chair, as our little one sleeps in his crib) that I set up my computer and surf the net while feeding. Nothing more scary than waking up and realizing you had fallen asleep!

I think it happens to the best of us!

I used to use my ipod (I have an ipod touch) and download TV programmes onto it, then watch it in the night when I was feeding. It is small enough to not be cumersome in bed and you can plug in the earphones so as not to disturb LO or wake OH. It made me feel sooooo much better! I never wanted to co-sleep so this was the best option for me, it really kept me alert. Now I am used to waking up at certain times for feeds and I never fall asleep now so I dont't often use it these days, but if you are doing a longer night feed it makes sitting up in bed a bit more interesting!

My LO slept in a crib, and I still do night feeds in a chair in his room. I am overweight and didn't want to risk co-sleeping for that reason. I used to hold and sip a glass of water .. if I dozed off I would drop the water and wake myself!
