Refusing bottles of ebm??

Well lo decided about two months ago that having breast milk in a bottle just wasnt on lol But since it wasnt an issue at the time i didnt pursue it.

On the 30th of this month i have to enrol at college and i wont be aloud to take lo with me, i was told to allow 4 hours for this, so i need to leave some ebm for her, the problem is getting her to take it!

I just tried her on a bottle again today, and she wasnt too bad, but to be honest she just played with it, rather than sucking it properly!!

Do you think if i offer her a bottle everyday she will get used to it? Or maybe i could try a sippy cup? And see if she prefers that?? Otherwise i dont no what to do when i have to go and enrol

xx

I haven't given any bottles to LO until quite late - she was about 14 wks. At first it was a disaster, and she refused. I kept expressing and keeping a bottle around for OH when I went out somewhere for more than an hour. When she was really hungry, she took it and now she can drink from it. We used Avent bottles with the 0-6 teat.

I think you need to be patient. Also, I think if she can hold her head up, you could try a sippy cup dierctly?

i started expressing at 11 weeks, we just tried giving small amount around the same time everyday, now he has a bottle of about 4oz of ebm at 7pm everynight.

i found it useful as he will take it off anyone now.
it helped not to give it too warm/cool or when irritable (really tired)

you might not get alot of milk initially so i would personally start trying now, as my LO sleep through the night now i pump till empty before going to bed everynight then offer it the following evening.

We have been trying for ages and with no joy. Have just got a breastflow bottle so going to try that as a last resort, otherwise it isstraight to the sippy cup for us.

If it is only a once off that you need her to take EBM, then you could try and see if she will take it from a syringe, you can get them from your GP or a pharmacy. It might take a while to give her a full feed but could be less messy than cup feeding if she won't take a bottle.

If you want her to get used to the bottle, then you will have to be persistent with it and try every day. My LO refused the bottle for a while but he drinks it fine now, it took a couple of weeks though and was pretty stressful at first as he would scream when we tried to give him the bottle.
