Help. Low supply and really don't want to stop BF

I had so many problems in the first 6 weeks and was in agony. I didn't imagine I'd get to nearly 4 months and be breastfeeding. The problem I have now is my supply seems to be so low despite doing all I can. I'm taking fenugreek (so much of it), trying to drink a lot (maybe I could do a bit better) and trying to have lots of calories. I'm also expressing after feeding to drain both boobs.

I've recently started my period again and think that has affected things. But that's finished for now so I'm not sure what's still affecting supply. My LO is being really fussy at the moment and not feeding well, which probably isn't helping. I'm having to express sometimes and feed from a bottle. I don't think this is solely the problem as my supply has been low before this.

Sometimes when I've had to express I barely get 2.5 oz from both boobs. At times when I feed, LO has both boobs and gets frustrated as there is no milk left. I'm still feeding ever 3 to 3 and a half hours so it's not like I'm not feeding often. And, as I said, I'm expressing too.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do beyond what I'm already doing to boost my supply?? I really don't want to stop BF as I now love it so much but it just doesn't seem to be going well. Thanks..

theres some good information on this website. when i think my supply isnt keeping up, i tend to forget about schedules and just feed as much as i can for a few days, if he wants to! usually works.

A lactation specialist suggested to me to try eating oats and drinking Ovaltine to boost supply. It seems to be working for me, my supply has def increased and baby is much less fussy at the breast. I eat a big bowl of oats for breakfast and drink Ovaltine before bedtime.

Fennel tea is also supposed to help, and has the added benefit of being transferred to baby in your milk and reducing discomfort from wind.

good luck

Also try this tea it's amazing stuff!! http://www.revital.co.uk/Trad_Med_Org_Mothers_Helper

When my LO is being fussy as the milk's not coming fast enough I do breast compressions which seem to help.

Thanks guys. I've not been able to get online since I posted my message so haven't been able to act on your advice. Wish I'd known about the Ovaltine as I have some in the cupboard (it helped my heartburn during pregnancy). I'm going to order some tea. I'll do anything.

It mights seem like the opposite to what I should be doing when I feel like I need to boost supply, but I've actually started feeding LO less regularly. I realised I was trying to feed her every 3 hours and she was fussing and not interested. I'm now feeding every 3.5 hours or 4 sometimes (though this hasn't been the intention). LO is having really good feeds and not fussing at all. Because I'm going longer between feeds Im not aware of being as low on supply, although appreciate I'm not going to be producing more if she's not feeding more often.

Thanks for your ideas. x
