night feeds

Hi All

Hoping someone might have some advice for me

LO usually sleeps solidly from about midnight until 06:30, sometimes even later. This means that I very seldom feed him during the night after midnight. I've been wondering whether this could be a bad thing? It's great for me as I almost always get a good night's sleep but I've been hearing a lot about the benefits of night feeding and am worried that these long sleeping stretches could be bad for my milk supply and for LO's feeding patterns.

Should I be setting an alarm to get up in the night and get a feed in at about 3 in the morning? I'd be happy to do it if it's best for LO.

wow your lucky.
I dunno about waking him but do you have a pump? As literally you could get about 2 or three feeds into the freezer over night?
I can easily pump two lots of 5 oz throughout the night if LO sleeps through.

It shouldn't affect your babies feeding pattern, but the benefit to a night feed isthat it does stimulate the needs for the next day, but your midnight one will be doing that. Also being over 6 weeks your supply should be well established so I doubt you'll have any issues with that... Personally I'd enjoy the sleep while it lasts!

Just enjoy it! If you really wanted to you could pump at night but I wouldn't bother if I was you. As has already been said, the midnight feed still counts as a 'night' feed for the purposes of boosting your supply.
