4 m.o. bf baby and STILL wakes up 6!! times a night!

Hi girls!!

We have a problem. I thought that by this timebaby wombat will start sleeping at least in 3 hours streches.

WRONG!

He still wakes up 4-7 times per night to feed. And I mean night from 11.30pm till 7 am.

Like tonight he woke up 6 times from 11.30 till 6.30 (when he got up for good)

He does sleep from 9.00pm till 11.30pm

Any ideas what to do??? I am soon going to go completly mad because of sleep deprivation!

It is definately milk he wants and not a dummy!

HELP! HELP! HELP!

Big hugs hun, you must be totally exhausted!! I don't know how you are still functioning on so little broken sleep, it must be so hard!

How is your LO at bedtime - does he go down awake or does he need to be fed/rocked to sleep? When he wakes up, is he taking a full feed or just small snacks through the night? How long can he go between feeds during the day? At four months he really shouldn't need to eat every hour during the night so I would be very surprised if it is hunger waking him (unless it's a growth spurt of course when all bets are off!). Does he take naps during the day?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a clearer picture.

have you tried feeding him more in the day as in offering him the boob CONSTANTLY. I know that if i have been out all day and mikeys been in his pram asleep for most of it i am gonna have a hellish night. but when he cluster feed as at night and say like from about 7pm till 9 is feeding i know he can sleep the whole way through.
If they eat more in the day it makes sense that they wont need as much in the night?
x

He needs to be rocked to sleep or fed.

I would say 50/50. Most of the time it is still a good feed.

During the day he is quite good really... He can go up to 4 hours without a feed.

At four months he really shouldn't need to eat every hour during the night so I would be very surprised if it is hunger waking him (unless it's a growth spurt of course when all bets are off!).

Not a growth spurt. He has been like this for ages. And it really sucks as when he was a newborn baby he used to go 4-5 hours without a feed practically from birth.

Does he take naps during the day?

Yes, one nap from 8am to 9am, then approx from 11 to 12, then from 3-4
But it is very approximate as the nap do change every day...

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a clearer picture.
Thank you for your reply I am just getting really tired. And as I got a cold I am really desperate for a good nights sleep. And for me at least 3-4 hour strech will be great!

I offer boob most of the time but he isn't interested... So I guess during the day he gets enough...

You could give it a try if you wanted but I think most people don't find that it makes too much difference to their LO's sleep.

I have been doing a sleep training programme called sleepsense, we have a support thread going over in groups - it focuses on teaching LO to settle themselves to sleep at bedtime without needing 'sleep props' e.g. feeding, rocking, dummy. The idea is that if they know how to get to sleep themselves then when they wake during the night they will be able to get back to sleep themselves if they are not hungry. We have gone from 3 or 4 night feeds (waking every two hours from 1 a.m. or before) to sleeping from 7 to 7 with just one night feed at about 3 a.m. Maybe have a read of the thread and see if you think it might be useful for you? - it seems to be working pretty well for most of the other ladies too. The link for the thread if you are interested is: http://www.babyandbump.com/bnb-group...ort-group.html

If he's going three or four hours between feeds during the day, he should probably be able to do the same or more at night, so you should really be able to cut your night waking down considerably if he was able to settle himself back to sleep when he wakes up. Apparently one of the reason why sleep can get worse at about this age is that the light phase of the sleep cycle gets much more pronounced, so LO is waking up at the end of the sleep cycle and can't get himself back to sleep without being fed or rocked.

Was baby wombat waking less often until recently?

There's a 4 month sleep regression which is certainly testing our reserves right now.
