Can I give a second thought to breastfeeding?

I had given up breastfeeding on the second day of my hospital stay because my nipples were feeling so sore and my breast wouldn't express much.

Now I've got massive breast and they leak like a faucet so I'm guessing there is a lot of milk in there, maybe it'll be easier this time to feed him properly. My nipples are still a bit sore, but I was thinking of trying to breastfeed in the beggining of next week. Would it be too late??

I also drank a beer last night... Is that gonna affect my milk if I start breastfeeding on monday?

Thanks in advance !!!!

Go for it, it'll be hard work and will take a wee while to build up your supply, but just let him comfort suck and that'll do it. The sooner you start the better though. A beer won't affect your milk at all really, it's only if you get drunk that it's a problem.
What I would say is that your nipples will likely get sore again, it can take weeks for everything to settle down, but once it does it's fab.

I would try using lanolin for your nipples or soothies gel pads.

You could even try nipple shields if it gets too painful. Gotta love breastfeeding, so easy! No worrying about measuring out and warming bottles just stick em on and go. Good luck to ya and hopefully you get on great with it.

Thanks girls... I have a lactation nurse coming this morning, I've tried to breastfeed last night but he was very frustrated and wouldn't stop crying. Took soo long for him to latch on. He much prefers the bottle to the breast !

The reason for that is that babies have to work to get milk from the breast, while the milk flows from bottles. He's still young enough to switch back though

I would say go for it, totally. Also you might look into a local La Leche group. From my understanding they can be a huge help when you run into problems BFing.
